Zang Toi celebrated his 25th anniversary on the runway with a showstopping Spring 2015 collection this past tuesday at Lincoln Center for Mercedez Benz Fashion Week, where trendboardnyc was lucky enough to have a front row seat to the event. The collection was appropriately named “A Privileged Life: The American Dream”. Like any great celebration, this show featured lively colors, great music, and even a few special guests (we spotted Whoopi Goldberg nestled among the crowd of adoring House of Toi fans)
Zang Toi has always been known for not following “trends” and instead forging his own path, and this collection was a perfect representation of this trademark style of design. With no “rules” to follow, Toi was able to transition seamlessly from fun and playful boldly colored tailored suits, to slinky black dresses, and finally to an elaborate evening gown collection featuring a wild orchid embellished purple number that took the crowds breath away. He also is not afraid of stripes,as accented by a few vertically striped red and white bold suit jackets and shorts and a bold black and white v-striped strapless gown.
The signature piece of the evening was a stunning free flowing floor length robe that looked straight out of an old hollywood starlets closet. The kind of piece that every girl dreams of having in her closet to throw over the most beautiful dress (or over nothing at all!)
Toi truly managed to capture the “American Dream” with this exciting collection, and we can’t wait to see what the next 25 years of House of Toi has in store for us!
With two staffers on-hand, Caitlin Phelps in the press pit and Tear-n Tan in the audience, we were able to capture every angle.
