For the first time since 2001, the highly-anticipated annual Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show will leave it’s New York residency moving to the sister fashion capital of London. Why the move? Per remarks from their chief marketing officer Ed Razek, it would seem VS is dead-set on making thir mark in the UK to coincide with the firm’s aggressive EU retail expansion. “We’ve started opening stores in London — I think we’ve got six stores in Great Britain at the moment and we hope to open more here…We found a good [show] location that made sense in Earls Court.” added Razek in comments from a Bond Street event that included Victoria’s Secret Angels Adriana Lima and Candice Swanepoel (pictured in this article).
While it’s been thru various iterations since the 1990s, including ties to Super Bowl related events, the event has since become a pre-holiday New York “tradition” over the past decade plus. This year the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show will launch pre-holidays on December 2. The move, while somewhat surprising, will leave it’s mark on Manhattan, as many industry veterans employed by the event will have ample time to fill the new opportunity available in the now vacant calendar spot.
